Beiber Doinks Head and Gets Concussion

I just read the Yahoo Page that Justin Beiber, my daughters LOVE him, ran into a glass wall and got a concussion.   Only feeling slightly dizzy he sang his last song to his performance and then went backstage and passed out.

Well, Mr. Beiber, according to our Neuropsychologist today, you would be better off having a major head injury with bleeding to the brain.  Sounds crazy?  Well, that's what I thought hearing those words coming out of his mouth.  According to Dr. So and So there is more Medical Diagnosis and help when your brain bleeds.

It is when you only have Concussions to the Brain are the Medical Doctors at a loss for advise to the injured.  We were also told that only 5% of people who have had serious head injuries (without the bleeding of the brain) have continuing confusion, frustration, depression, and anger outbursts.

I say BULLSHIT to that.

I also say thank GOD for Dr. Daniel Amen, who also Dr. So and So said was controversial.  Why is Dr. Amen, his short bio follows via Amazon...

Dr. Amen is widely regarded as one of the world's foremost experts on applying brain imaging science to clinical psychiatric practice. He is a board certified child and adult psychiatrist and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is the medical director of Amen Clinics, Inc. in Newport Beach and Fairfield, California, Bellevue, Washington, and Reston, Virginia. Amen Clinics have the world's largest database of functional brain scans relating, totaling more than 60,000 scans. The clinics have seen patients from 90 countries.

Dr. Amen is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. He has presented his work around the world. He is widely regarded as a gifted teacher, taking complex concepts in neuropsychiatry and imaging and making them easily accessible to other professionals.

Dr. Amen is the lead researcher on the world's largest brain imaging/brain rehabilitation study on professional football players, which not only demonstrated significant brain damage in a high percentage of retired players, but also the possibility for rehabilitation in many with the principles that underlie his work.

Dr. Amen is the author of 40 professional articles, the co-author of the Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry's chapter on Functional Imaging in Clinical Practice, 28 books, including three New York Times bestsellers: Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, Magnificent Mind At Any Age, and Change Your Brain, Change Your Body. He is also the author of Healing ADD, Making A Good Brain Great, Healing the Hardware of the Soul, and co-author of Unchain Your Brain, Healing Anxiety and Depression and Preventing Alzheimer's.

So then why is Dr. Amen controversial?  Well, in my opinion it is because he talks about therapy and approaches to head injuries giving his patients alternatives other the almighty PRESCRIPTION DRUGS that are ruling America.  Yes, he talks about Amino Acids such as Tyrosine, Tryptophan, 5 HTP, and others that have worked miraculous in our own family!!  And I mean miracles.

Had we trusted the AMA to fix our problems at the time our one daughter would be heavily medicated with some anti-psychotic drug.  Instead for some reason a short time on 5 HTP made the world of difference.  Our other daughter was told she had Seizure Disorder and the Doctor pretty much said she better take this prescribed medicine or she will get worse and that basically it would be our fault.  Well, I knew her Vitamin D level was only a 3 with 30 to 80 being the norm so I wanted to hold out.  She started taking 50,000 units a week but we really didn't see the absence seizures stop until she had started on Taurine, another Amino Acid that has been known to help kids with Absence Seizures.

So, Dr. Amen tells the truth, he gives hope, and he is giving people other options than pouring money into the Drug Companies of the USA which seem to have taken over.  Pharmaceuticals are a multi billion dollar industry.

Word of advice, Justin Beiber, if you have any changes in personality, problems focusing or concentrating, feelings of despair, please seek a good Neurologist.  Actually just head to one of Amen's Clinics because after 20 plus years of being head injured we quite frankly think that most Neurologists don't have a CLUE.  They should all beat their heads against a wall first before giving STUPID and USELESS ADVICE when basically they don't know their ASS from a HOLE in the WALL when it comes to Brain Injuries.

Thanks for listening <3

Head Injuries - the Walking Wounded - there is HOPE

Simply a Head Injury or is it CTE? Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a new word hitting the news today.  TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury is a more common phrase known for having a hit to the brain that sends you for a loop.

My husband and I have 5 head injuries, Traumatic Brain Injuries  TBIs, between us.  We used to think we were the blind leading the blind when we first got married but then realized differently.  Especially after learning about the recent suicides by the NFL players Junior Seau, Dave Duerson, Owen Thomas and others.  We have realized that we are fortunate to have each other  someone who truly understands what having a brain injury is all about. As you probably already have found out Neurologists really do not have a CLUE!

Having a head injury kind of puts you in a world all by itself.  Brain Injuries are by far the least understood of all medical problems.  In the past 20 years we have seen Neurologists and regular doctors that did not have a clue at all about head injuries.  Instead of getting any kind of confirmation or understanding at all we left the office more confused, angry and depressed.  One Neurologist down in Mountain Home, Arkansas told my husband just to go out and get a job!  I'm laughing now looking back as we see what an idiot he was and probably still is.  I believe if Neurologists are going to give advice, stupid advice, to people with traumatic injuries that they need to get hit in the head a few times before they open their mouth!

I've spent 20 years looking for answers.

We noticed something wasn't right after I fell 10 feet onto a concrete parking deck needing 160 stitches to hold my head together. Going to doctors back then was a joke.  My husband had 3 TBIs in less than a year.  His total demeanor changed.  At the time, especially back then 20 years ago, there wasn't any real help that we knew of for rehab on our brain, not even realizing that we needed rehab at that time. Our families had no idea on what was going on or what to do after our head traumas.  They knew the old Johnny and Sue (before we met) had taken on different personalities that weren't as nice, patient, and calm.  Replaced was having a short fuse, impatience, easily angered, resulting in crying jags, confusion and depression.

I didn't find any help or support really until I found Dr. Daniel Amen's book, "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life".  You can find his work at http://www.amenclinics.net/  Go take a peek.  You'll find you are not alone and that there is HOPE.  We are still hoping to one day get a Spect Scan which shows which parts of your brain are not working properly.  This is soooo important as it is concrete evidence of where and what you need to become the best you can be opposed to the guessing game the doctors do with meds.  Doing the wrong meds can leave you to be a total whack job!

My husband is starting a blog at http://www.onetoomanyhitstothehead.blogspot.com/ where he will be sharing the day to day issues he goes with have 3 major head injuries.  He'll give an informative yet whitty perspective on what it's like to have multiple head injuries.  We hope his head injury blog gives light to those who have been whacked in the head through football whether it is playing in the NFL, college, high school, or pee wee.  Or those who played hockey, rugby, baseball, you name it anything that gets you up off your feet that you can whack your head!

Also all the Men and Women coming back from Iraq.  I was told the soldiers in the Military have very little help if any at all from the doctors that are assigned in helping these wounded get back on their feet.  The suicide rate is high for those coming back and I am sure many of them have had some kind of head injury as well as post traumatic stress both of which Dr. Amen discusses in his books.  These men and women need help, the right help, right away!!

Be sure and follow my blog.  I'll be updating about TBIs, CTE, and maybe PTS.  And don't forget PCS, post concussive syndrome:)  Educate yourself, be informed, get involved and realize you are NOT ALONE!

The suicide of Junior Seau, Dave Duerson, Owen Thomas and others was a tragic loss.  So sad, so unnecessary.  But hopefully through their tragic deaths hope will be given to others as more light is brought onto the subject of people with head injuries, the Walking Wounded.  God Bless their families and may they see HOPE through all this.  Thank God for the NFL Brain Bank and we pray that they continue on with their intensive research that will help all brain injured people including the NFL football players and many others.

Thanks for listening :)
